Parking
Lot Safety
If
possible, walk to your car with someone else.
Have your keys in hand as you leave the building and
be aware of your surroundings. Check the interior
of your car before entering. If your car is not
as you left it (door open, broken window, unlocked,
etc.), go back to the building and have someone check
it with you. Lock your car doors as soon as you
are inside.
Safety
Within the Building
Secure
your valuables at all times. At the end of the
day, window offices should close their blinds and turn
off the lights. The last person leaving a department
at the end of the day should secure the department doors,
close blinds and shut off electrical appliances.
Building
hours are 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The main door
is locked by 5:00 p.m. Be sure doors latch behind
you as you leave.
Strangers
in the Building
If
you are concerned about a stranger's presence in the
building, notify another ESD employee before taking
action. Ask
unfamiliar people in the building if you can direct
them somewhere. Escort them to the area they
are going. Report all suspicious people/behavior
to Facilities or to the receptionist.
Vendors
in the Building:
- Ask
if they have an appointment.
- Take
the vendor to the receptionist and tell them they
can make an appointment with Facilities.
- If
they refuse to make an appointment, tell them soliciting
is not allowed on the premises and ask them to leave
the building. Walk them to the door or call
Facilities. If they refuse to leave, tell them
the police department is across the street and you
are calling 911.
Off-Site
Storage Precautions
- Do
not go to the off-site storage site alone.
- The
door to off-site storage should always be locked.
Test it as you leave to be sure that you have
locked it. Test it before entering, and, if
it is unlocked, do not enter alone. Inform
facilities of any safety hazards you observe:
unsecured doors, light bulbs burned out or anything
unusual.
- Safety
Hazards
- Please
notify the Facilities Office of any facility/safety hazards you
observe in and around the building.
